GEORGETOWN, Guyana β€” Police in Regional Division 4 β€œC” are investigating the alleged murder of 36-year-old Ray Sheoraj, called β€œRedman,” who died late Monday night after a violent altercation at Supply, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on November 24 at the victim’s residence, where Sheoraj was reportedly in the company of several individuals. According to investigators, an argument erupted between Sheoraj and a 62-year-old male relative who lives in the same yard. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly wounded Sheoraj on his left leg with a sharp object.

Police said Sheoraj attempted to treat the injury himself but later collapsed in the upper flat of the home. He was rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.

A cutlass and a chopper believed to have been used during the altercation were found at the scene and have been lodged as evidence, the Guyana Police Force said.

The 62-year-old suspect fled the scene shortly after the incident, and searches are ongoing to locate him.

Two men who were present during the confrontationβ€”a 45-year-old labourer from Belmont, Mahaica, and a 38-year-old labourer from Supplyβ€”were taken into custody as the investigation widens.

A 29-year-old female relative, a housewife of Supply who sustained a minor injury during the dispute, is receiving medical treatment.

Sheoraj’s body has been transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
