Customers were left terrified on Friday night when three masked and armed bandits stormed the China #11 Supermarket at Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, robbing the business of cash and thousands of dollars in phone cards before fleeing on foot.
According to a Police press release, the robbery occurred at about 8:44 p.m. on October 10, 2025, while the owner, 38-year-old Chinese businessman Zhuangshui Xu, was behind the cashier counter serving customers. Police said the suspects were armed with a handgun, a knife and a cutlass, and each had their face covered with cloth while wearing hooded or long-sleeve clothing.
The bandits confronted the victim and demanded money. One suspect jumped into the cashier area, emptied the register and stuffed the day’s sales along with $50,000 in Digicel and GT&T phone cards into a black plastic bag before escaping in an unknown direction.
Police said several persons have been questioned as investigators intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators of the brazen supermarket heist.
