The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) says Arrival Day serves as a powerful reminder of the rich history of sacrifice, perseverance, determination, and enterprise brought by the many peoples who came to Guyana’s shores and helped shape the nation.

In a statement marking the occasion, the party encouraged all Guyanese to reflect on the grueling journeys endured by their foreparents, the harsh conditions they faced, and the sacrifices they made to build families, communities, and livelihoods. Despite immense hardship, the PPP noted, these early settlers persevered and contributed significantly to the development of Guyana across agriculture, business, public service, education, religion, culture, and national life.

The party said those contributions laid the foundation for the multi-cultural and multi-religious society that Guyana proudly celebrates today. It added that through resilience and hard work, successive generations inherited values of sacrifice, unity, brotherhood, and mutual respect—principles that continue to define the nation and are reflected in its shared traditions and customs.

According to the PPP, Arrival Day also highlights the importance of preserving unity and harmony, which have been central to Guyana’s progress as one nation. The sacrifices of previous generations, the statement noted, created opportunities for the future and contributed to the country’s continued advancement.

As Guyana moves along its path of growth and development, the party urged citizens to honour the legacy of their ancestors by working together to build a peaceful, prosperous, and united nation.
