Bartica Man Gets Two Years Jail for Sexual Activity with Underaged Family Member

October 22, 2025

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — A 42-year-old Bartica resident was on Tuesday convicted and sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child who is a family member, the Guyana Police Force reported.

The accused, identified as Haniff Khan, an unemployed man of Four Miles Housing Scheme, Bartica, was arrested on July 1, 2025, and charged three days later by a Detective from the Bartica Police Station.

Khan appeared before His Worship Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court on October 22, 2025, where the verdict was delivered. The court found him guilty of the offence of Sexual Activity with a Child Family Member and imposed a two-year prison sentence, to run concurrently.

The conviction follows sustained investigative efforts by the Bartica Police Station and the prosecution of the case under Guyana’s strengthened sexual offences laws, which seek to protect minors and ensure accountability for sexual crimes within families. (Guyana Police Force)
