November 19, 2025

A Berbice farmer and his partner were taken into custody after police uncovered a firearm, ammunition and cannabis during an intelligence-led operation at their Cromarty Farm home on Tuesday, according to Regional Division Six police.

Police said a team of ranks, led by senior officers, carried out a search at the residence of a 43-year-old farmer and his 55-year-old partner, a part-time worker, following actionable intelligence.

During the search, ranks reportedly found a .32 pistol concealed under a mattress in one of the bedrooms. A single .32 round was discovered alongside the weapon, while two additional rounds of the same caliber were recovered from another area of the house, police said.

Officers also found three small transparent zip-lock bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. The narcotics, when weighed in the presence of the two occupants, amounted to 8 grams.

Both individuals were informed of the offences and arrested. Police said the cannabis, firearm and ammunition were lodged as evidence.

The pair remains in custody as the investigation continues.
