CANU intercepts vehicles, seizes more than eight kilograms of suspected cocaine

February 8, 2026

Officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) Friday intercepted two vehicles in Kitty, Georgetown, seizing more than eight kilograms of suspected cocaine following a pursuit that ended along the Rupert Craig Highway corridor.

The operation was conducted on February 7 after CANU received actionable intelligence indicating possible narcotics movement in the area near David Street. During the interception attempt, the driver of a white Volkswagen motorcar, registration PAL 4117, fled at high speed, prompting a pursuit by CANU officers.

Authorities said the driver attempted to evade law enforcement, leading to a collision involving several CANU vehicles during the chase. As the pursuit continued along Sheriff Street, officers observed a brown cardboard box being thrown from the fleeing vehicle before the intersection with Rupert Craig Highway.

Some officers stopped to recover the box while others continued the pursuit. The Volkswagen was subsequently intercepted at the intersection of Rupert Craig Highway and Sheriff Street.

The vehicle was driven by Shaquille Gordon, who was the sole occupant at the time. The recovered cardboard box was presented at the scene, and a search conducted in the presence of the suspects revealed seven brick-like parcels suspected to be cocaine. Gordon and Ravindranauth Persaud, the driver of a white Pitbull minibus bearing registration BAB 6337, were arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters along with the suspected narcotics.

Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be cocaine, with a total weight of approximately 8.226 kilograms, or 18.135 pounds. Investigations are ongoing.
