Crime Down 25.5% Nationwide in 2025, Guyana Police Report

The Guyana Police Force recorded an overall reduction in serious crimes across all regional divisions in 2025, reflecting continued improvements in public safety and law enforcement efforts nationwide.

Police statistics show that serious crimes fell from 1,235 cases in 2024 to 920 cases in 2025, a reduction of 25.5 percent for the period Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2025. The data covers Regional Divisions One through Ten.

Notable declines were recorded in several major offence categories, including robbery, burglary, break and enter and larceny, rape and kidnapping, pointing to positive trends in crime reduction across the country.

The police force also reported improvements in road safety. During the same period, 124 fatal accidents were recorded, resulting in 137 road traffic deaths. Authorities noted reductions in other accident categories, including serious, minor and damage-only accidents.

Overall, total road accidents declined from 2,405 cases in 2024 to 2,177 cases in 2025.

The Guyana Police Force said it remains committed to sustained crime-fighting strategies, strengthened community engagement and proactive policing as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens nationwide.
