East Bank Road Network to Deliver 16-Lane Connectivity from Buzz Bee Dam to Soesdyke

October 7, 2025

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali says Guyana’s East Bank Demerara is on the cusp of being transformed into one of the most advanced road corridors in the region, with up to 16 lanes of interconnected highways set to link from Buzz Bee Dam to Soesdyke.

During an inspection of ongoing works at Buzz Bee Dam, President Ali said the new multi-phase highway alignment — spanning Diamond, to Soesdyke — will form a vital part of the government’s long-term transportation and housing development strategy.

“This interconnection will link several new alignments and create a four-by-four network that can handle up to 16 lanes of traffic from Buzz Bee Dam to Soesdyke,” the President explained. “This is part of our vision to ensure efficient mobility and access to housing and industrial zones.”

The project is being executed in eight lots, with contractors working around the clock to accelerate progress. The final phase, connecting Land of Canaan to Soesdyke, is now in its design stage and will be tender-ready before year-end.

President Ali said the road expansion is about more than connectivity — it is part of a larger national plan to decongest the East Bank, open new housing areas, and promote economic growth through industrial development.

“The new East Bank network will not only cut travel time but also unlock thousands of acres of land for housing, industry, and commerce,” he stated.

The works include the construction of roundabouts, dual carriageways, and modern drainage canals to support long-term sustainability.

President Ali emphasized that the government is taking a holistic approach to national development, linking infrastructure to jobs, investment, and new communities.

“Every new stretch of road, every bridge, every canal — they all connect to our broader vision of a stronger, more connected, and more prosperous Guyana,” he said.
