GEORGETOWN, Guyana — A 62-year-old businesswoman from North Ruimveldt was arrested and sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to two counts of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, police said.
Paulette Emanuel, of Lot 2567 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was taken into custody on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, and subsequently charged under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
She appeared before Magistrate T. Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the charges were read. Emanuel pleaded guilty to both counts.
The court sentenced her to two years’ imprisonment and fined GYD $30,000 on each charge.
