PARIS, France — Guyana has been elected to the Approval Committee of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport, marking the nation’s first successful bid for a leadership position within a global anti-doping body.
The election took place during the 10th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP10) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, hosted at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Guyana was represented by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr.
The development represents a significant milestone in Guyana’s emergence as a respected voice in international sports governance and integrity efforts. Officials described the appointment as both an honor and a recognition of the country’s growing contribution to global sports administration and policy.

Established in 2008, the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport plays a vital role in supporting countries to design, develop, and implement effective anti-doping programs. Through education, testing, and capacity-building initiatives, the fund aims to ensure fairness and clean competition in sport.
The Approval Committee—to which Guyana now belongs—is tasked with evaluating and approving project proposals for funding under the program. Since its creation, the fund has invested more than USD $5 million in over 200 projects worldwide, targeting doping prevention and promoting integrity in sport at all levels.
Guyana’s inclusion on the committee gives it a seat at the table where crucial decisions about global anti-doping funding are made, reflecting international confidence in the country’s expanding role in sports leadership.
