GEORGETOWN, Guyana — The Government of Guyana has invited engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bids for the establishment of a gas bottling and logistics company aimed at reducing the price of domestic cooking gas, according to a call for bids published in the local newspapers on Sunday.
The proposed Guyana Gas Bottling and Logistics Company (GGBL), to be incorporated under a public-private partnership model, will bottle, transport and distribute liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household use. The facility will be located at Wales, east of the Gas-to-Energy combined-cycle power plant and Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) facility, and will receive its supply of cooking gas from Guyana Power and Gas Inc. (GPGI) at wholesale prices.
Government officials said the project seeks to meet an annual domestic demand of about 3 million 20-pound cylinders, valued at approximately G$14 billion.
Bidders are required to demonstrate prior experience executing and operating similar EPC projects; provide a detailed plot plan and land requirements; submit timelines for design, engineering and construction; and present a comprehensive cost breakdown for site development, infrastructure, equipment and logistics. Proposals must also include work methodology, local-content details, manpower distribution, and draft EPC and operator contracts with financial projections.
The government noted that GGBL will be privately financed on a project-finance basis, with the state responsible for establishing the company, securing financing, and arranging necessary permits and contracts. Evaluations will consider experience, cost competitiveness and project timelines, with only qualified firms being shortlisted.
Bids must be submitted by January 15, 2026, to the Chairman, National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), Main and Urquhart Streets, Georgetown.
