GEORGETOWN, Guyana — The Government of Guyana is preparing to launch a new “hassle-free” digital appointment app designed to eliminate long lines, cut waiting times and improve access to public services, Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation Zulfikar Ally announced Friday.
Speaking during an outreach in New Amsterdam, Region Six, Ally said the application is now in its testing phase and will allow citizens to schedule appointments at any government agency, select available dates and times, and receive confirmation directly on their mobile devices.
“We are testing right now the app where you can make appointments at any government agency. So, you are not turning up, not knowing whether you are going to be served or not,” the minister said.
Officials say the platform is intended to guarantee that residents who arrive with confirmed bookings will be served during their scheduled window — a major shift for agencies that have long seen heavy walk-in traffic and unpredictable delays.
The initiative forms part of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s wider public-sector digital transformation programme, which aims to modernize service delivery across government and reduce the burden on citizens. Ally warned that those who ignore new digital tools risk being “left behind” as the administration pushes toward a more technology-driven economy.
A major feature of the transformation is the digitization of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS). Under presidential instruction, the Ministry of Public Service and the Ministry of Finance have been given eight months to move NIS operations fully online — including contribution history checks, compliance applications and pension-related services.
“What it means is that you are going to wake up one morning… download the NIS app, put in your information, see which service you need, check your contributions, apply for compliance — all within five seconds and without even turning over in your bed,” Ally said.
He added that new internal digital systems are also being deployed, including a real-time project dashboard that allows President Ali to monitor the progress of every government project across the country, which officials say will strengthen accountability and efficiency.
Ally emphasized that Region Six and all other regions will benefit from these upgrades as the government works to ensure faster, more reliable and more respectful service for all Guyanese.
