Guyanese Brand UMAMI Enters T&T Market Through Massy Distribution

March 15, 2026

Guyanese agro-processing company UMAMI has expanded into the Trinidad and Tobago market through a strategic distribution partnership with Massy Distribution, a move that aligns with a broader national push to increase the presence of Guyanese products across Caribbean supermarkets.

The agreement will see Massy Distribution supply UMAMI’s range of premium sauces and condiments to retail, grocery, and food service outlets throughout Trinidad and Tobago, making the Guyanese brand available to consumers across that country for the first time.

The expansion reflects growing regional trade and highlights the increasing presence of Guyanese manufactured goods within key CARICOM markets, as the country continues efforts to position itself as a competitive supplier of value-added food products in the Caribbean.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali welcomed the development, noting that the entry of Guyanese agro-processed products into regional markets demonstrates the tangible impact of government policies aimed at strengthening local manufacturing and boosting exports.

According to the President, measures such as the removal of corporate taxes on agro-processing were designed to stimulate investment, expand production capacity and support the growth of value-added manufacturing, enabling Guyanese companies to compete more effectively across the region.

UMAMI Director Chris Persaud said Trinidad and Tobago represents one of the Caribbean’s most dynamic food markets, adding that partnering with Massy Distribution provides the company with access to a trusted regional distributor that understands the retail landscape and consumer preferences.

“Partnering with Massy Distribution allows us to enter the market with a trusted regional leader that understands both the retail landscape and the preferences of Caribbean consumers,” Persaud said, expressing confidence that the brand’s distinctive flavors will resonate with consumers in Trinidad and Tobago.

Massy Integrated Retail Executive Vice President Ambikah Mongroo welcomed the partnership, stating that the company is pleased to introduce UMAMI’s products to its customers. She noted that the sauces represent an exciting addition to Massy’s portfolio and reflect the company’s commitment to bringing high-quality Guyanese products to the market.

Founded in 2013, UMAMI produces a range of value-added sauces, seasonings and condiments using locally sourced ingredients and modern manufacturing standards. The company has built a strong reputation in Guyana and abroad for producing high-quality products designed to complement Caribbean cuisine.

Massy Distribution, part of the Massy Group, is one of the Caribbean’s leading distribution companies, supplying international and regional brands to supermarkets, retailers and the hospitality sector throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

Through the partnership, UMAMI products are expected to soon appear on supermarket shelves across Trinidad and Tobago, marking another step in Guyana’s drive to expand regional markets for locally manufactured goods and strengthen the country’s export-oriented agro-processing sector.
