Guyanese Students Named Most Outstanding at CSEC and CAPE in the Caribbean for 2025

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Guyanese students have once again dominated the regional academic stage, with Mahesa Boodhoo and Sara Khan, both of Queen’s College, being named the Most Outstanding CSEC and Most Outstanding CAPE Candidates in the Caribbean for 2025. The announcement by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) underscores Guyana’s continued leadership in education and the exceptional calibre of its students. In addition to these top honours, Guyana also secured three regional subject awards — Dhanesh Tularam of Saraswati Vidya Niketan for Business Studies, Raquel London of Queen’s College for Humanities, and Samara Munro of Queen’s College for the Sciences.

The 2025 Regional Merit Lists released by CXC further reflect the strength and depth of Guyana’s education system. At the CAPE level, students from Guyana secured 32 Regional Merit placements across 14 subject units, demonstrating exceptional performance in science, technology, engineering, business, modern creative disciplines, and the humanities. Guyana earned merit placements in Agricultural Science Units 1 and 2, Animation and Game Design Units 1 and 2, Economics Unit 2, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology Unit 2, Green Engineering Units 1 and 2, Information Technology Unit 2, Integrated Mathematics, Law Unit 2, Logistics and Supply Chain Operations Unit 1, Performing Arts (Cinematic Arts) Unit 2, and Physics Unit 2. Additionally, Sara Khan was named the Best Overall CAPE Performer in the Caribbean, highlighting the consistency of Guyana’s excellence at the highest level of regional academic assessment.

At the CSEC level, Guyanese students earned 60 merit positions across 16 subject areas, ranking among the region’s top ten performers in each subject category. These results once again demonstrate the discipline and determination of Guyana’s students, supported by the dedication of teachers and families. The country also captured several of CXC’s top awards, with Mahesa Boodhoo of Queen’s College receiving the title of Most Outstanding Overall CSEC Performer in the Caribbean, alongside Dhanesh Tularam of Saraswati Vidya Niketan for Business, Raquel London of Queen’s College for Humanities, and Samara Munro of Queen’s College for Sciences.

Minister of Education extended heartfelt congratulations to all awardees and students who earned places on the regional merit lists, noting that these achievements are a testament to the shared effort of students, teachers, parents, and school communities across Guyana. “Excellence is not an act; it is a habit,” the Minister said. “These results are the product of countless hours of study, the guidance of our dedicated teachers, the encouragement of parents and guardians, and the steadfast investment of our government in education.”

The Ministry of Education commended every student whose name appears on the CXC Regional Merit Lists and expressed confidence that these accomplishments will inspire others across the country. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing the support, resources, and opportunities needed to help every learner achieve their full potential. Guyana’s outstanding performance at the 2025 CSEC and CAPE examinations stands as a proud reflection of the nation’s continued leadership in regional education and its unwavering belief in the transformative power of learning.
