Labourer Drowns at Annandale; Police Launch Investigation

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged drowning of a 29-year-old labourer, identified as Jagadhwar Mohan of Lusignan Pasture, East Coast Demerara, which occurred this morning at Annandale Access Road/Sideline Dam, East Coast Demerara.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident happened between 7:10 a.m. and 7:25 a.m. while Mohan was in the company of two men collecting puri leaf from a trench in the area.

Police said Mohan reportedly slipped into a deep section of the waterway and became submerged. His companions later pulled him from the water in an unconscious state. Emergency Medical Technicians who responded to the scene pronounced him dead.

Investigators examined the body, which bore no visible marks of violence, before escorting it to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for storage pending a post-mortem examination.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
