GEORGETOWN, Guyana — A man was shot and injured by a member of the Guyana Police Force on Friday afternoon during an arrest at Red Road, ‘D’ Field, Sophia, police said.
According to preliminary police reports, ranks responded to a report of larceny at about 5:00 p.m. on December 12, 2025, and arrested a 35-year-old man from the Cummings Lodge Squatting Area. Police said that during the arrest process, the suspect allegedly became aggressive, assaulted a rank and attempted to escape from custody.

As a result, a police rank discharged his service weapon, shooting the suspect in his left foot, police said.
The suspect was subdued and taken to the Turkeyen Police Station and later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he received medical treatment. He was listed in stable condition.
The Guyana Police Force said investigations into the incident are continuing and that further details will be released as they become available.
