November 26, 2025

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Public Works Minister Bishop Juan Edghill on Wednesday met with representatives of the UK Business Mission to Guyana and Suriname for discussions aimed at expanding trade, investment, and technical cooperation between British firms and Caribbean partners.

The meeting, held in the minister’s boardroom, brought together companies from a wide cross-section of sectors — including infrastructure, energy, logistics, technology, and environmental services — as both sides examined new opportunities for two-way commercial engagement.

Edghill reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering a business environment that encourages innovation, sustainable development, and meaningful partnerships. He noted that Guyana’s rapid transformation, particularly in infrastructure and energy, continues to open new avenues for joint ventures that can strengthen local capacity.

Mission representatives outlined their interest in emerging opportunities within Guyana’s energy, logistics, infrastructure, and environmental sectors. Companies participating in the mission included the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), BritCham Guyana, Smart Suriname, Kestrel, Aggreko, Cura Terrae, Ellipse Projects, I.T. Transport TT, Mowlem, NCUK, NSG Exports Limited, Rainbo Supplies, REIDsteel, Rosetta Stone, and SiriusInsight.

Both sides expressed optimism that closer collaboration could enhance regional connectivity and support innovation in areas such as ICT, renewable energy, infrastructure modernization, and port development.

Edghill highlighted the government’s investment priorities, noting alignment with Guyana’s long-term development strategy. “The opportunities in Guyana are expansive, but we are intentional about partnerships that contribute to sustainable growth and technological advancement,” he said.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain open communication as follow-up discussions advance. The delegation was led by British High Commissioner to Guyana and UK Ambassador to Suriname Jane Miller and included Regional Director for the Commonwealth Caribbean D’Jamila Ward.
