Motorcyclist Dies in Stanleytown Crash

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Police in Regional Division 6 are investigating a crash that left a 22-year-old motorcyclist dead following a collision Thursday afternoon at Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on the Stanleytown Public Road and involved a motor car, PLL 6600, driven by a 56-year-old man from Lancaster Village, Corentyne, and a motorcycle, CP 1385, ridden by Daniel North of Islington Village, East Bank Berbice.

According to investigators, the car was heading north along the western driving lane while North approached the intersection from an access road on the western side of the public road. The two vehicles collided as the motorcyclist attempted to enter the main roadway.

North was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. The driver of the car was also hospitalized and remains admitted, police said.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
