Neighbour Dispute Turns Violent at Traffic Stop

October 11, 2025

Police are investigating a violent altercation along the East Bank Demerara public road that left a grandmother, grandfather and their toddler granddaughter injured during an apparent neighbour dispute.

The incident occurred around 15:30 hrs on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Coverden. The victims—53-year-old housewife Indira Thomas, her husband William Thomas, a 68-year-old businessman, and their 18-month-old granddaughter—were in traffic after picking up the child from a daycare in Friendship.

According to police, the suspect, 68-year-old construction worker Wilfred Aaron, who lives in the same community and has a long-standing feud with the Thomases, began hurling expletives and threatening William Thomas while both vehicles were stuck in traffic at Land of Canaan.

William exited his vehicle to confront the suspect. At that point, Aaron allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked him, inflicting wounds to his abdomen and ear.

The toddler was also cut on her left wrist during the chaos.

When Indira attempted to intervene, she was slashed on her elbow, palm, and three fingers on her right hand.

Despite the injuries, William managed to drive his family to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.

Police have arrested the suspect, and investigations are ongoing.
