New President of Barbados elected

October 7, 2025

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Davidson Bostic has been officially elected as the next President of Barbados.

His election was confirmed this morning during a joint sitting of the House of Assembly and the Senate, where there were no objections to the sole nomination — jointly endorsed by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne.

Speaker of the House Arthur Holder announced to the Joint Session that in the absence of any objections, a formal vote was unnecessary, and the nomination stood approved.

In his remarks, Opposition Leader Thorne emphasised the unity behind Bostic’s selection, describing him as a steady, respected Barbadian, while Prime Minister Mottley hailed him as the right person for this time, noting that he embodies all the qualities required for the office.
