GEORGETOWN, Guyana — A 29-year-old man from Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, was on Wednesday charged in connection with a fatal road accident that led to the death of a motorcyclist earlier this week.
Adrian Evans appeared before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court #1, where he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and prohibition of tinted glass.
Evans was not required to plead to the causing death by dangerous driving charge and was granted $600,000 bail. As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered to lodge his passport and report to the Sparendaam Police Station on the first Friday of every month until the conclusion of the matter.
He pleaded not guilty to the tinted glass charge and was placed on an additional $25,000 bail. That matter was adjourned to December 23, 2025.
The charges stem from a fatal collision that occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025, along the Sparendaam Public Road, East Coast Demerara. Police said Evans was driving motor car PAB 2495 east along the southern lane of the northern carriageway when he allegedly made a right turn at the intersection, colliding with motorcycle CP 5910, which was being ridden west by 32-year-old Steven Kumar of Block 12, Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara.
Kumar sustained multiple injuries, including a broken leg and severe lacerations. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in an unconscious state and later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, November 11, at about 3:30 a.m.
A breathalyser test administered to Evans reportedly showed a reading of 0.04 micrograms of alcohol. He was taken into custody shortly after the accident pending the outcome of the investigation.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Wednesday by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh confirmed Kumar died from multiple injuries consistent with a motor vehicle accident.
