Ranks of the Guyana Police Force on Wednesday destroyed several large cannabis farms valued at over $250 million during a joint eradication exercise in the Upper Berbice River area.
According to the Guyana Police Force, two gazetted officers, along with ranks from the Narcotics Branch and Regional Division #6, conducted the operation at Maria Henrietta, Zion, and Kimbia.
During the extensive exercise, the team discovered five farms spanning approximately 20 acres, containing an estimated 160,800 cannabis plants measuring between two and six feet in height.
Officers also unearthed three makeshift camps and five drying areas that held about 460 pounds of dried cannabis. All the plants, dried marijuana, and camps were destroyed by fire under police supervision.
Police estimate the total street value of the narcotics at more than $250 million.
The operation was completed without incident, and investigations are ongoing, the Guyana Police Force confirmed.
