November 9, 2025

Police in Region Seven have arrested four people following the discovery of a firearm, ammunition, and suspected narcotics during an intelligence-led operation at Aramu Backdam, Cuyuni River, on Sunday.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the operation targeted two business premises and resulted in the seizure of a 12-gauge shotgun with its serial number filed off, an air pistol, and six 12-gauge live cartridges.

Police said the first search was conducted at the premises of a 33-year-old businessman from Queenstown, Georgetown, and his 37-year-old reputed wife of Aramu Landing. A subsequent search at another building within the same compound, occupied by a 38-year-old gold miner from West Watooka Hilltop, Linden, and his 27-year-old reputed wife, uncovered several quantities of suspected cannabis, as well as substances believed to be cocaine and amphetamine.

The suspected narcotics were weighed in the presence of the suspects before being sealed and lodged as exhibits. All four individuals were taken into custody as investigations continue.

Authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the possession of illegal firearms and narcotics in mining districts across Guyana.
