Police Nab Terrorism Suspect at Vergenoegen

October 28, 2025

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Acting on intelligence, a team of police officers led by a Superintendent on Tuesday arrested terrorism suspect Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo at Vergenoegen Sideline Dam, East Bank Essequibo.

The Guyana Police Force confirmed that Peodomo, who is believed to be the main perpetrator in Sunday’s deadly explosion at the Mobil Fuel Station at Regent and King Streets, Georgetown, was taken into custody without incident. He is currently assisting investigators as part of an intensive probe into the attack, which left one child dead and four others injured.

The October 26 explosion rocked central Georgetown, destroying vehicles and causing widespread panic. The victim, six-year-old Soraya Bourne, succumbed to injuries sustained in the blast, while Rishad Lorde, 8, and Sedyia McIntosh, 11, remain in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Two others, Jenica Hooper and Yvonne Honas, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities had earlier issued a wanted bulletin for Peodomo, releasing his photograph to the public as part of a nationwide manhunt. The arrest marks a major breakthrough in the ongoing terrorism investigation, which President Dr. Irfaan Ali has ordered to be treated with the “full scale and seriousness of a national security priority.”

Police have not disclosed the suspect’s nationality or other personal details. Officials say further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
