GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Police on the Essequibo Coast have launched an investigation into the death of a 1-year, 9-month-old boy who was found unresponsive in a trench near his home in Queenstown on Monday.
The toddler, identified as Deon Dwarkar, was reportedly at home with relatives when he went missing. Moments later, family members discovered his body in a nearby trench south of their residence, police said in a statement Tuesday.
He was rushed to the Lima Regional Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
According to investigators, the child’s body showed no visible signs of violence. The remains have been taken to the Suddie Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Police have not ruled out foul play, but described the incident as an alleged drowning pending further investigation.
