GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Police are investigating the suspected murder of an unidentified man who was found shot dead early Tuesday morning on Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown.
The Guyana Police Force said the victim — described as a male of mixed race whose name, address and occupation remain unknown — was discovered around 3:45 a.m. lying in a pool of blood on his left side in a crouched position. He was wearing blue long pants, a blue-and-white striped jersey, red boxer shorts and black Nike slippers.
Detectives arrived at the scene at approximately 4 a.m. Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned and pronounced the man dead.
According to police, a preliminary examination revealed what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the forehead with an exit wound at the back of the head.
Ranks from the Crime Scene Unit processed the location and recovered a single spent shell, which was marked, sealed and lodged as evidence. The body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police said CCTV cameras were observed in the area and will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
The Guyana Police Force is urging anyone with information that could help identify the deceased or assist in the investigation to contact the nearest police station or call 911.
The investigation is ongoing.
