May 1, 2026

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) on Thursday paid tribute to workers across Guyana, commending their role in driving the country’s development and reaffirming its commitment to improving livelihoods.

In its Labour Day 2026 message, the party expressed appreciation to “the hardworking men and women of Guyana whose dedication, sacrifice, and resilience continue to drive our nation’s progress and prosperity.”

The PPP said workers in every sector — including education, healthcare, agriculture, mining, public service, the disciplined services, construction and the private sector — continue to play a vital role in building a stronger and more prosperous country.

Labour Day, the party noted, serves as a reminder of historic struggles to secure workers’ rights, fair wages, safe working conditions and dignity in the workplace. It said it remains committed to safeguarding those gains while advancing policies aimed at expanding opportunities and improving incomes.

The party highlighted efforts by the government to increase employment, raise wages and pensions, and invest in education, training and social services. It added that improving workplace conditions and strengthening support systems for working families remain key priorities.

As Guyana continues on a path of rapid economic transformation, the PPP said it is focused on ensuring that growth benefits all citizens and communities.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to social justice, economic empowerment and inclusive national development, urging unity and collective effort in building a society where every citizen can thrive.

It also extended Labour Day greetings to workers nationwide.
