Pres. Ali Congratulates St. Lucia’s Philip J. Pierre on Re-Election

December 2, 2025

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Guyana’s President, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, on Monday extended warm congratulations to Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre on securing a second consecutive term in office, following his party’s decisive victory in the island nation’s general election.

In a formal statement, President Ali said Pierre’s renewed mandate “reflects the confidence the people of Saint Lucia continue to place in his leadership and that of his party in continuing the important work of national development.”

Pierre’s Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) won a commanding majority in the December 2025 polls, capturing 14 of the 17 parliamentary seats — an improvement over its 2021 showing and the first time an incumbent government in Saint Lucia has expanded its majority while seeking re-election. The opposition United Workers Party (UWP), led by former Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, secured only one seat.

President Ali said he looks forward to strengthening cooperation with the Pierre administration in the coming years, noting that both nations share common goals in regional integration, economic development, climate resilience, and CARICOM’s broader agenda.

“I look forward to working closely with his government to advance our shared ideals of regional cooperation and to further strengthen the longstanding and friendly relations between Guyana and Saint Lucia,” Ali said.

Pierre, who has served as Prime Minister since 2021, campaigned on stabilizing the economy, expanding youth-focused development initiatives, and strengthening governance. His victory is seen as an endorsement of his administration’s performance during a period marked by global economic pressures and rising security concerns across the Caribbean.

Guyana and Saint Lucia maintain close ties through CARICOM, collaborating on regional infrastructure, disaster response, food security, and climate adaptation. Ali’s message signals continuity in Guyana’s support for deeper Caribbean unity and joint development strategies.
