May 17, 2026

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has approved the appointment of nine new Regional Executive Officers (REOs), as the government moves to strengthen regional administration and improve the delivery of public services across the country.

In a statement, the Government of Guyana said the newly appointed REOs are expected to work closely with regional administrations, local democratic organs and communities to enhance governance, accelerate development programmes and ensure more efficient service delivery to citizens.

The appointments form part of the government’s wider effort to build professional, responsive and people-centred institutions capable of supporting inclusive development in every region of Guyana.

Regional Executive Officers play a central role in overseeing the administrative and operational functions of regional democratic councils, including the implementation of government policies, supervision of public works and coordination of services within their respective regions.

The government said the appointments are intended to strengthen accountability, improve coordination at the regional level and support the rapid pace of development currently underway across the country.
