October 25, 2026

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — President Dr. Irfaan Ali has extended congratulations to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his reported re-election to a fourth term, reaffirming Guyana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment, and advancing regional integration.

In his congratulatory message, President Ali acknowledged the significance of Lula’s victory and the opportunity it presents for continued development and progress in Brazil.

“I extend warmest congratulations to His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election as President of the Federative Republic of Brazil for a historic fourth term,” President Ali said.

“His historic reelection will allow him and his party to build on the progress achieved over the previous term and to pursue a future of greater opportunity for all Brazilians.”

President Ali also reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Guyana and Brazil and expressed his commitment to working closely with Lula on shared development priorities.

“Guyana and Brazil enjoy strong and enduring bonds of friendship, mutual respect and cooperation. I look forward to continuing our close collaboration to strengthen bilateral relations, deepen regional integration, expand trade and investment, and advance our shared commitment to sustainable development and regional prosperity,” he stated.

“I congratulate President Lula and the people of Brazil on this important democratic milestone and extend my best wishes for continued peace, progress and prosperity.”

Lula, a former metalworker and trade union leader, previously served as Brazil’s president from 2003 to 2010 before returning to office in January 2023 following his victory in the 2022 presidential election.

Guyana and Brazil have maintained longstanding diplomatic and economic relations, with cooperation spanning energy, agriculture, infrastructure, defence and regional connectivity.

During Lula’s visit to Guyana in February 2024, the two presidents held discussions on strengthening bilateral trade, investment and transportation links, including improved road connectivity between the neighbouring countries.

The two countries have continued to pursue closer economic cooperation and stronger integration between South America and the Caribbean.
