President Ali Congratulates Newly Elected Regional Chairs, Vice Chairs, Extends Gratitude to Outgoing Officials

October 10, 2025

President Irfaan Ali has extended warm congratulations to all newly elected Regional Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons, and Councillors across Guyana’s ten administrative regions, urging them to embrace their responsibilities with humility, unity, and a deep sense of service to the people.

Delivering a message themed “Work Together for the Common Good,” President Ali reminded the newly elected officials that public office “is not a prize to be enjoyed, but a trust to be honoured.” He emphasized that the Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs) form an essential pillar of Guyana’s governance structure, ensuring that national development priorities are translated into tangible benefits at the community level.

“Our Regional Democratic Councils are an important tier of our system of governance,” the President said. “They are the instruments through which development is planned and implemented at the regional level, ensuring that national priorities are translated into tangible benefits for our citizens.”

He urged councillors from all political backgrounds to work in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect, noting that while healthy debate is natural, it must always be guided by a shared commitment to the people’s welfare and the advancement of their regions.

“The fact that our elections are conducted within an adversarial political system does not diminish the need for collaboration across political divides,” President Ali stated. “It is time now for all to set aside partisan divisions and work together, not only among themselves but also in partnership with central government.”

Dr. Ali further underscored that meaningful development in health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and local enterprise can only be achieved through collective effort and unity of purpose. “Progress can only be achieved when we recognise that we are all working toward the same goal—a better quality of life for the people we serve,” he affirmed.

The President called on the newly elected councils to be models of good governance—responsive to citizens’ needs, accountable in their actions, and united in their purpose. “Leadership is not about power or prestige, but about service and sacrifice,” he said. “Those who are chosen to lead are, at their core, servants of the people. And it is through humility, empathy, and integrity that true leadership is defined.”

In the same message, President Ali also extended heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing Regional Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons for their years of committed service. He said their dedication and leadership were instrumental in ensuring that government programmes were effectively implemented and that tangible improvements reached communities across the country.

“Your service stands as a proud example of our Party’s and Government’s commitment to the people of Guyana,” the President said. “Through your leadership, the plans and programmes of our Government were faithfully translated into outcomes that improved the quality of life across your regions. The progress achieved under your stewardship reflects our shared dedication to people-centred development.”

Dr. Ali credited the PPP/C’s emphatic victory at the recent elections, in part, to the hard work and presence of these outgoing regional leaders among the people. “Your contributions remain deeply valued,” he said. “We look forward to your continued involvement in advancing Guyana’s development.”

The President concluded by extending his best wishes to both the newly elected and outgoing leaders, expressing confidence that their collective experience, insight, and commitment will continue to drive the nation forward toward a more prosperous and unified Guyana.
