GEORGETOWN, Guyana — A police rank stationed in Regional Police Division One has been placed under close arrest after a video surfaced showing him indiscriminately discharging an AK-47 rifle during what appeared to be a confrontation with unknown individuals.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said Sunday that the Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident. The Office of Professional Responsibility has been directed to commence a detailed probe to determine the full circumstances surrounding the officer’s actions.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, forms part of the evidence under review as investigators assess whether the rank’s conduct warrants disciplinary penalties, criminal charges, or both.
In its statement, the GPF said the matter is being treated with “the utmost seriousness” and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and accountability within the force.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, the GPF added
