GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Police on Tuesday evening seized a 9mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition following a high-speed chase through Albouystown, leading to the arrest of a 17-year-old male suspect.
According to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Ruimveldt Police Station, a mobile patrol acting on intelligence spotted two male suspects on a red motorcycle around 7:05 p.m. in the vicinity of Durban Street.
When officers attempted to intercept them, the suspects fled, triggering a pursuit. While crossing the bridge at Sussex and Hill Streets, Albouystown, the motorcycle crashed, throwing both men onto the roadway.
Police said the pillion rider ran from the scene but was chased and apprehended on Howes Street moments later. The rider managed to pick up the motorcycle and escape south along Hill Street.
A search of the captured suspect uncovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing five live rounds. He was cautioned and taken into custody, and the weapon and ammunition were lodged as evidence.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the second suspect, police said.
