PURUNI, Cuyuni-Mazaruni — Police are investigating a boating accident that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the Puruni River, Middle Mazaruni, where an aluminum boat reportedly capsized and sank while traveling from Surie Mouth Backdam to Puruni Landing.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the incident occurred around 16:00 hrs. Preliminary investigations suggest that the vessel, which was carrying four occupants, encountered mechanical difficulties before becoming unbalanced and overturning.
Two of the passengers managed to swim to safety. However, two others—identified as Patrice Grimmond and Evis Robin (ages and addresses unknown)—remain missing.
A team of police ranks has been deployed to the area to investigate the incident and assist with ongoing search and recovery efforts.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the two missing men have died; however, police have not released any statement confirming this.
