Police are investigating an alleged murder which occurred on Wednesday August 12, 2026, about 21:00hrs at Dukestown, Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice, resulting in the death of Asmat Mohamed Hussain, a 55-year-old fisherman of Dukestown.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Hussain was involved in an altercation with a 15-year-old male of Corriverton, during which he sustained injuries.
Hussain was subsequently taken to the No. 75 Regional Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.
The 15-year-old was subsequently contacted by Police and arrested. He remains in Police custody assisting with the investigation.
CCTV cameras were seen in the area and will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
The body is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
