Guyana’s humanitarian relief shipment has arrived safely in Venezuela, marking another milestone in the country’s response to communities affected by the recent earthquake.

On Sunday, the vessels Mega and Motti docked at La Guaira Port carrying food, medicines and other emergency relief supplies as part of a humanitarian mission spearheaded by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, with support from CARICOM member states and Guyana’s private sector.
In a statement issued on Monday, Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud said the successful arrival of the vessels reflects Guyana’s commitment to supporting its neighbours during times of crisis.

“Guyana remains a reliable partner in times of crisis and stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan people as they recover from the devastating impacts of the earthquake,” he stated.
The supplies were officially received by Venezuela’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Yvan Gil, in the presence of Guyana’s Ambassador to Venezuela, H.E. Dr Richard Van West-Charles.

The arrival follows last week’s departure of the Motti vessel from BK Wharf in Kingston, Georgetown, where Senior Minister within the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, witnessed the shipment leave Guyana.
The vessel transported 88 containers of humanitarian assistance, including 300 water tanks, two pieces of earth-moving equipment, pharmaceuticals, food supplies, including Guyanese rice, cleaning materials, and other emergency relief items needed to support post-earthquake recovery efforts.
The vessel, provided by the BK Group of Companies, formed part of Guyana’s national humanitarian response led by President Ali and supported by several CARICOM member states, the local private sector, citizens and members of the Venezuelan community residing in Guyana.
The humanitarian mission reflects Guyana’s continued commitment to regional solidarity and cooperation, providing critical assistance to neighbouring Venezuela as recovery efforts continue following the earthquake. (DPI)
