Attorney-at-law Darren Wade, a known People’s National Congress activist and long-standing critic of several government policies, today celebrated the academic achievements of both himself and his wife after they successfully completed postgraduate studies through the Government of Guyana’s Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) scholarship programme.
Wade shared the accomplishment on social media, congratulating his wife, Dr. Ginel Nedd-Wade, on earning her PhD in Public Health.
“Beyond proud of my beautiful wife, Dr. Ginel Nedd-Wade, on earning her PhD in Public Health. Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance have paid off. Congratulations, Doctor!” Wade wrote.
According to Wade, his wife earned her doctorate in Public Health from Texila American University, one of the institutions associated with the GOAL scholarship initiative. Wade himself completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Jindal Global Law School through the programme.

The development is noteworthy given the People’s National Congress Reform’s longstanding criticism of GOAL, one of the flagship education initiatives of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) administration.
Since its launch in 2021, GOAL has awarded tens of thousands of scholarships to Guyanese pursuing certificate, diploma, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes through partnerships with local, regional and international institutions. The programme was established to expand access to higher education and professional development opportunities for Guyanese across the country.
Over the years, opposition figures and commentators have criticized the programme and questioned its value and effectiveness. Despite those criticisms, GOAL has continued to attract thousands of applicants annually and has become one of the government’s largest investments in education and human capital development.
Government officials have consistently defended the initiative as a transformative programme that is creating opportunities for Guyanese who may not otherwise have had access to tertiary education and professional training.
Wade has been a visible political figure aligned with the opposition and has frequently criticized government policies and programmes through public commentary and social media engagement. His and his wife’s successful completion of postgraduate studies through GOAL adds another dimension to the ongoing public discussion surrounding the programme and its impact.
As Guyana continues to invest heavily in education and workforce development, GOAL remains one of the government’s most expansive scholarship initiatives, providing opportunities to thousands of Guyanese from diverse professional, social and political backgrounds.
