Police are investigating after a gunshot was allegedly fired into the compound of the Office of the President in Georgetown on Friday night, damaging the windscreen of a government minibus.
The incident occurred about 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 21, according to the Guyana Police Force.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a police rank on duty at the location heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from the direction of the Square of the Revolution.
During subsequent checks of the compound, police discovered an indentation surrounded by cracks on the windscreen of a minibus attached to the Office of the President. The vehicle was parked on the northeastern side of the compound and was facing south.
Investigators also recovered a suspected 9mm warhead on the ground in front of the minibus. It was lodged as evidence pending examination.
