President Dr. Irfaan Ali: Leading a Nation While Building Opportunities for Others

July 16, 2026

Public office is one of the greatest responsibilities anyone can undertake. It demands unwavering commitment, countless sacrifices, long hours, and an extraordinary level of resilience. Many dream of serving their country, but very few are entrusted with the responsibility of leading it.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has demonstrated that leadership is not simply about holding office—it is about serving people while inspiring others to build, invest, and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

As Guyanese, we should ask ourselves an important question: Should a person who dedicates years of their life to serving their country be expected to abandon every legitimate business interest they built before entering office? Public service is temporary. Family responsibilities, financial obligations, and personal aspirations continue long after one’s term in office has ended.

Long before becoming President, Dr. Ali invested in agriculture. His poultry farm was established in 2012. I can personally attest to when this farm began. I visited the site during its early days, when it was nothing more than a clearing in dense forest on a sandy hill. There were no major facilities or advantages—just a vision, determination, and the willingness to invest in the future.

The farm was developed several miles off the Linden Highway rather than on prime roadside lands. I have also personally seen evidence that the business was financed through commercial loans from two commercial banks. Like many entrepreneurs starting a new venture, the business relied on financing and years of hard work to get established.

Over the years, as the farm generated revenue, those earnings were reinvested into expanding and modernizing the operation. Additional commercial financing was also secured to facilitate further growth. That is what responsible business people do—they reinvest their profits, refinance when necessary, expand their operations, create employment, and build long-term value. Businesses are not built overnight; they grow through prudent investment, sound financial management, and a long-term commitment to success.

Today, after more than a decade of continuous investment and development, the farm has grown into a genuine commercial agricultural enterprise. It has supplied poultry to established businesses and has become part of Guyana’s growing agricultural sector. Its growth is a reflection of years of reinvestment, careful planning, and business discipline—not something that happened overnight.

What makes this particularly noteworthy is that, while carrying the immense responsibility of leading a rapidly transforming nation, President Ali has continued to demonstrate that agriculture remains close to his heart. He has consistently championed initiatives that encourage Guyanese to invest in food production, including support for poultry production, shade-house farming, crop cultivation, agro-processing, and other agricultural ventures designed to strengthen food security, create employment, and reduce imports.

His message has always been clear: don’t just seek employment—create opportunities. Empower families. Build businesses. Invest in agriculture. Produce more of what Guyana consumes.

At the same time, he has balanced the enormous demands of the Presidency with being a husband, a father to a young family, and a leader who remains accessible to citizens from every walk of life. Whether engaging farmers, students, entrepreneurs, community groups, or investors, he continues to dedicate remarkable amounts of time to listening, encouraging, and solving problems.

Leading a country while maintaining a family life is already an extraordinary challenge. Doing so while continuing to demonstrate confidence in Guyana through personal investment in agriculture sends a powerful message about belief in our nation’s future.

President Ali has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to transparency, accountability, and national development. Rather than allowing distractions or misinformation to dominate the national conversation, Guyanese should remain focused on the unprecedented opportunities before us.

Today, Guyana is experiencing historic transformation. New industries are emerging, agriculture is expanding, infrastructure is improving, and opportunities for young people continue to grow. This progress has not happened by accident—it has been driven by vision, hard work, and leadership.

Let us support those who dedicate themselves to public service while encouraging entrepreneurship, investment, and national development. Let us judge people by facts, integrity, and results—not by distraction or speculation.

Together, let us continue building a stronger, more prosperous Guyana for ourselves, our children, and generations to come.

Yours respectfully,

Dr Komal Singh
