May 12, 2026

A group of former A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Members of Parliament and current regional councillors on Tuesday declared their support for the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP), citing confidence in the party’s leadership, economic stewardship and national development agenda.

The declaration came during a meeting with General Secretary of the PPP, Bharrat Jagdeo, which was held at the request of the group.

Those attending included former APNU Members of Parliament Rickly Ramsaroop, Shurwayne Holder and Dinesh Jaiprashad, along with current Regional Councillors Ravoldo Birbal, Sheik Yaseen, Prince Holder and Gangadai Lloyd.

During the engagement, the group expressed a desire to be associated with the PPP and contribute to Guyana’s ongoing development as the country advances along what they described as an unprecedented path of economic growth and modernisation.

The former opposition representatives praised the PPP’s management of the economy, its inclusive style of governance and the transformation taking place across the country. They said the party has demonstrated the leadership, technical capacity and vision required to sustain development and improve the lives of Guyanese across all communities.

They also pointed to the implementation of key manifesto promises, noting that many initiatives have already translated into tangible benefits for citizens nationwide.

The group further described the PPP as welcoming and inclusive, while contrasting the current political environment with their previous experiences.

Jagdeo welcomed the interest expressed by the group and reiterated that the PPP remains committed to serving all Guyanese while promoting national unity, expanding opportunities and ensuring that the benefits of development are shared across the country.
